Does google sometimes locate new businesses? or do business owne

I was always curious, Google tends to know about a business even before it's open for business. Is it because the business owners add the site to Google's database? I know local businesses can be located in Google search, it's part of the reason why I like Google so much, it's so informative. It gives you the exact location, phone, email etc.

Anyway, that's not the point. My point is this, do businesses have to add themselves to Google's database? Or will Google eventually find them and add them somehow? I figure it's not the latter since I doubt Google will be looking out for new businesses. But has there ever been a time where Google adds these businesses themselves?

Yeah it's mostly that businesses have to consciously have to register on Google and have their own Google my business account started along with posting their location on maps as well as properly equipping their website to function properly in accordance with Google search algorithm and best practices that help rank it higher as a business site.

I don't think most new companies get added to Google's database of local businesses. I think the majority have to add that info themselves. I imagine big companies/businesses were added in from the get-go. But any new businesses will probably need to be listed as a local business.
