Do longer blog posts-articles help better with ranking

When it comes to ranking on Google or any search engine, is it better to have longer blog posts/articles? Or I should say long form content.

I hear that the longer the content is that you're sharing, this case a blog post, it will help with your ranking. But how does a longer article do this?

I think it helps to keep people on the site for longer as well. I imagine the longer an article is, the more options for keywords to be added in. As well, keeping people on longer, may interest them to view other articles.

I'm sure there is some kind of thing with SEO where the more content you have, the more likely it'll rank easier. Don't quote me on that though.
